2024 AdChoices Compliance Report Now Available
Ad Standards has released its 10th annual AdChoices Accountability Program Compliance Report, covering program performance for 2024. The full report is available in both English and French.
Working independently from the DAAC, Ad Standards monitors whether participating companies are meeting the requirements of the DAAC’s Self-Regulatory Principles for Interest-Based Advertising. This year’s report highlights continued strong engagement from program participants, with an 86% attestation return rate and high levels of compliance among both First and Third Party Participants.
Key takeaways from 2024:
Overall Compliance: 84% of First Parties were compliant with the Principles (even before accounting for attestation return), and 80% achieved full compliance including submission of the required Self-Attestation Form. Among Third Parties, 95% submitted their forms, and 80% achieved full compliance.
Consumer Complaints: Ad Standards received 569 consumer complaints in 2024, a slight increase from the prior year. Only 19 related to interest-based advertising (IBA), and most were about opt-out functionality. No complaints were received regarding sensitive data use in IBA.
New Portal: A new consumer complaint intake portal was launched in early 2024 to help better direct complaints and inquiries.
Mobile App Monitoring: 22 Participants with mobile apps underwent compliance review alongside their websites.
We encourage all AdChoices participants to review the full 2024 report, especially as it includes helpful reminders and best practices for achieving and maintaining compliance. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to consumer privacy and transparency in interest-based advertising.
