Before the Ad Runs: Closing the Political Advertising Accountability Gap

  • Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada (DAAC) PO Box 97045 Toronto RPO Roncesvalles, Ontario, M6R 3B3 Canada (map)

In the United States, it's the midterm election season in Fall 2026. This webinar aims to get you prepared to deliver mandatory paid-for campaign disclosures in digital political ads.

Webinar | At Your Desk | One-Time Only

In this 1-hour webinar, we will cover what's required in "paid for" disclosures in political ads on digital platforms — and the rise of icon-based programs to enable adapted disclaimers in U.S. state and federal elections, as well as Canada.

  • Hear from experts in digital advertising who share the potential roadblocks in political advertising accountability stemming from gaps in consumer transparency, meaningful disclosures, and others.

  • Lapses in accountability occur when campaigns, agencies, platforms, DSPs, publishers, or vendors fail to classify covered political ads, collect sponsor information, prepare enhanced notice, coordinate interest-based advertising disclosures, assign responsibility, or test whether transparency signals will survive distribution.

This webinar will cover the basics of how existing self-regulatory compliance principles and guardrails provide the ads ecosystem with guidance on maintaining consumer transparency about political ads.

The webinar will also touch on the intersection of digital political ads with influencer marketing, AI transparency, and other forward-looking aspects of digital advertising.

The DAA Political Advertising Principles and DAAP Compliance Guidance will serve as the foundation, but the webinar will not be a page-by-page walkthrough. Instead, we aim to translate the guidance into a practical accountability framework for the 2026 political advertising cycle.
