The Canadian Self-Regulatory Program for Online Behavioural Advertising is designed to give consumers a better understanding of, as well as greater control over, the ads that are displayed to them based on their online behaviour.

The Canadian marketing and advertising trade associations that comprise the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada (DAAC) and the other companies that you’ll find listed on this website all share a commitment to delivering a robust and credible program for notice and choice of Online Behavioural Advertising, in order to enhance consumer confidence in the online medium.

Click here to register for our upcoming webinar on Thursday, January 22 at 12:00 pm EST. This webinar is aimed at companies who wish to learn more about what program participation entails.

For Consumers:

Learn About Online Behavioural Advertising: As an online consumer, you can find out more about online behavioural advertising and how it helps provide you with more relevant ads on the websites that you visit. You’ll learn how online behavioural advertising supports the content, products and services that you use on the web, what online ad choices you have, and how to use browser controls to enhance your privacy.

Exercise Your Choice: You can also visit the program’s Consumer Opt-Out Page (Beta), which allows consumers to conveniently opt out from online behavioural advertising served by any, or all of the participating companies.

Submit a Complaint: If you believe that you have witnessed a practice or an ad that may violate the Self-Regulatory Principles For Online Behavioural Advertising, you can report it here. Complaints may be submitted by consumers, companies, and organizations.

For Companies:

To enhance the transparency of online behavioural advertising, the program encourages companies to:

  • Register To Display The Advertising Option Icon as a means of informing consumers about OBA data collection and use practices through clear, meaningful and prominent notice.
  • Register To Be Listed On The Consumer Opt-Out Page, where consumers can easily opt out of receiving online behavioural advertising from some or all participating companies.
  • Click here to register for the program

Companies can read about the Principles, find out more about the participating Canadian Associations, and learn more about how companies can participate in the program.

Submit a Complaint: If you believe that you have witnessed a practice or an ad that may violate the Self-Regulatory Principles For Online Behavioural Advertising, you can report it here. Complaints may be submitted by consumers, companies, and organizations.
